While other sectors of the U.S. economy appear to be recovering from the recession, the construction equipment industry remains mired in a deep depression. Congress and the administration must take swift and decisive action now on multi-year highway legislation and other infrastructure and tax policies that will create jobs and spur economic recovery. The future of the construction equipment industry and the health of the nation’s economy are at stake. Please sign the Start Us Up USA! petition and let our elected leaders know that our equipment cannot sit idle anymore!

I support the enactment of a construction equipment recovery agenda. A centerpiece of that recovery is the swift enactment of multi-year reauthorization bills that will make critical investment in the nation’s highways, public transportation, bridges, sewers, drinking water systems, and airports.

Our nation must have new transportation funding to improve our crumbling infrastructure and spur a recovery of the construction equipment industry. A stopgap extension of the current highway program will only continue economic uncertainty in the construction industry and is unacceptable! Eighteen months is too long to wait if President Obama and Congress want to put the men and women of the construction equipment industry back to work before the spring construction season starts in early 2010.

To help pay for greater investment in transportation, Congress should support a modest gas tax increase. This user fee is a fair and fiscally responsible way to provide additional revenue needed to maintain and improve the roads and bridges we all use, every day. Congress can also help nurture a construction equipment recovery by ensuring credit is available to finance responsible business decisions and by providing targeted incentives to stimulate market demand.

I agree times have never been tougher for the construction equipment industry. Congress and the Obama administration must make revitalization of this industry a top priority by investing substantially in our nation’s infrastructure and enacting tax policies that will create jobs and spur economic recovery.

"I the undersigned, agree times have never been tougher for the construction equipment industry and Congress and the administration must make revitalization of the construction equipment industry a top priority by investing substantially in our nation's infrastructure and enacting tax policies that will create jobs and spur economic recovery."
